Film News caught up with Sophie to find out more...
Hi Sophie, how are you today?I’m very well thank you so much. I was filming a new comedy movie today and then had to head to the airport for a photoshoot abroad so I’m very grateful to you for keeping me company whilst I wait for my plane! It’s lovely to get to chat with you today!
How was your time at Emmerdale? I absolutely loved my time there. The whole cast and crew were just lovely and so warm and welcoming towards me making me feel really at ease on set with them. I remember feeling really nervous on my first day of filming as I’d been watching the show so I knew all of the actors but the nerves swiftly disappeared once we all got talking and got on so well. All in all, It was a brilliant experience being in the series, I loved it!
What drew you to working in the Philippines and kept you there for so long? I originally flew to the Philippines through modelling as I’d just won a beauty pageant in the UK and was then asked to represent England in another international beauty pageant. I made it to the finals which were held in Manila and planned to stay there for 2 weeks which turned into 5 years! It was a real whirlwind out there but a very exciting one!
As people knew that I'm an actress and model back in the UK and now a beauty queen too which is a massive deal in Asia, I was offered main roles in feature films that all made cinema, TV commercials, roles in a lot of TV shows and great roles in several TV series for top TV networks out there. I also landed modelling contracts there and all over Asia so I was constantly flying all over the place and career wise it just made sense to stay and make the most of all of the wonderful opportunities that were coming my way.
I really cherish my time in the Philippines and I can’t thank the amazing country enough for being so good to me. I still have very close connections with people out there and it’ll always be a big part of my life as it’s still my second home!
Since your return you have been very busy completing 7 feature films, can you tell us more about these rolesYes definitely, I love talking about the films because I’m so proud of each of them! The films include:
The Last Punch by Steven Murphey. It’s a drama that I play Lottie in who’s the female lead role and so much fun to play as she’s a real hippie type character and just wants to have fun and embrace life!
Skullhunter which is also written by Steven Murphey and directed by Charles and James Solly.
Miss The Kiss directed by Ray Burdis and written by Ray and Michael Head which is a comedy starring Patsy Kensit, Martin Kemp and many more famous faces. It’s a brilliant script and was so much fun being on set with genuinely awesome vibes throughout!
The Invisible Woman by Blake Ridder. This film was a short sci movie that we filmed earlier this year in sunny Spain and it was so much fun to film as I’m super close to the other cast members- Sarah Alexander Marks and Louis James who are also both in Escape so when you are working with your friends abroad it becomes a fun holiday at the same time!
An Indian comedy movie called Kadah Prem Kadh Gondhal (which is the feature film I finished filming today)!
And the other 2 feature films which I’m extremely excited about as they are both due for release this year are DarkGame and Escape which are both directed by the hugely talented award-winning director Howard J Ford.
DarkGame is a horror thriller starring Ed Westwick who plays a detective in a race against time to stop a twisted game show on the dark web, where captives are forced to compete for their lives. It’s an extremely intense and captivating story line and I play a character called Fay which I believe will be a very memorable role and you’ll definitely see why when you watch the film!
Escape is a brutal kidnap revenge thriller about human trafficking. I’m so beyond excited about this movie as I play one of the lead roles and I had such an amazing time filming it in some truly awesome cinematic locations across Europe including France and the canary islands where we shot the bulk of the movie! It’s an extremely fast paced movie full of nonstop action which allowed me to put some of my stage combat and martial arts training into practice! The film is larger than life and takes you on one hell of a journey keeping you zoned in on the screen at all times! It’s got a great cast also starring Sarah Alexander Marks, Sean Cronin, Angela Dixon’ and many more awesome talents! I play Lucy who’s a feisty dancer determined to survive against all odds no matter what and with a real desire to get her own back fuelled by a clouded past! I’m excited for people to see me as they never have done before! The movie is definitely not for the faint hearted but is destined to be pretty epic so I cannot wait for you to see it soon!
What are your next projects? I’ve recently been cast in 4 films which I’ll actually be filming from next week after my modelling job abroad if my plane ever turns up haha! A couple of them I’m not allowed to talk about yet but for the 2 that I am allowed to talk about, 1 is called Day of Judgement which is an adventure fantasy film that I play the female lead role in and that’s being shot in Germany this May directed by Sven Kürten and the other one is called Bermondsey Tales: Fall of the Roman Empire starring Maisie Smith and Charlie Clapham to name a few of the fabulous star-studded cast members. It’s a British gangster film and is being directed by Ray Burdis and Michael Head.
When did you know that acting was what you wanted to pursue as a full-time career? I think as soon as I left school! I was always very academic but the subject that made me feel the happiest was always drama and theatre studies! I grew up doing gymnastics so had always been used to performing. I’m also very interested in Psychology so have always found analysing human behaviour quite fascinating which probably makes me sound totally weird hahaha but I think having a real interest in the mind makes me more driven towards wanting to become different characters and stepping into the mind set of other people.
What are your acting ambitions?I’d love to continue doing as many films as possible in a huge range of different genres. I like to think of my acting style as being very versatile so the more varied roles I can land the better! I love acting in things that I know will really entertain the audience and that portray stories with a lot of depth. I’m always really excited to work with brand new as well as established talents. I’d also love to play a long-standing regular role in another TV series here at some point to!
I’m really grateful for all the roles I’ve had so far and would like to take my acting career to the highest level that I can so I plan on work work working towards that!
