Multi-talented Italian-born actor Niccolò Dallerba has been creating quite the buzz in Hollywood. In an exclusive interview, Film News sat down with Tinsel Town’s latest leading man to talk about his highly anticipated HBO Max series, ‘More’.
Welcome to Film News Niccolò. What got you into acting and made you realize that it was your chosen path? There wasn’t an exact moment that made me realize acting was my path, but I do remember that since I was a kid I always made voices or copy some of the characters in movies and I was pretty good to recognize actors from different movies even with totally different costumes or looks. I can tell you for sure that I became obsessed with movies of all genres and specific classics like ‘Star Wars’, ‘E.T.’, ‘Indiana Jones’ or ‘Some Like It Hot’ so I was a real cinephile and still I am. Another vivid memory was watching Sergio Leone’s movies as ‘The good, The Bad and the Ugly’ and gets emotional which if I think right now sound pretty wild.
What makes you unique? I think that we are all unique for the better or for worse with advantages and disadvantages. There are plenty of things which makes me unique like my ability to speak different languages and I’m pretty honest and sensitive. I’m a good listener and I always want to grow and do better for me and people around me. These qualities make for a good actor. I’m also very practical but sometimes I get lost in my head.
How would you describe the projects that you typically prefer? Speaking about projects I really do love good pieces with good writing that makes me feel something the first time I read them, even with a basic and simple story but something special and fresh full of details. So, it really depends, I have of course my favorite genres but like I said you’ll never know when a good story comes into your hands, and you need to make it live for the audience, in the way in which it was intended.
What is your creative process when preparing for a movie? My creative process when preparing for a movie it’s very exciting for me and I really love to explore and study the character or the story because can be something that I didn’t even know would exist or maybe that I’ve heard about it, but I wasn’t well informed. Can be pretty hard sometimes and challenge to do a real person that maybe is still alive or died recently because you have a moral responsibility, and you need to make it truth as possible with your interpretation staying with the real identity of the character. One thing that is important but for me it’s not the funniest thing to prepare is you need to know the script with all the story and the background and obviously your lines really good so you can play and have fun in the scene. One thing that really helps me is to know, not just my lines and my part, but the whole story so I can see the project in different ways and. I think that you can embrace the character with costumes, ideas or easily just a walk or an attitude which helps you to get in the mind and the body of the character, with no doubt I always listen to my inner voice and instinct.
Tell us about ‘More’ for HBO Max. Recently I filmed a TV pilot called ‘More’ for Warner Brothers and HBO Max. The show follows the Lorenz family, a tight-knit clan of seemingly flawless Latinas led by mom/mastermind Leona. The Lorenz’s are the Vanderbilts or the Astors of the Instagram era. Drawing some parallels to the Kardashians and their “momager” Kris Jenner, the Lorenz’s pulled their way up from debt and obscurity to reality TV stardom and forged a billion-dollar mega-conglomerate not from oil or steel but from something more elusive and modern: influence.
The project is directed by Silver Tree, and I star alongside Gore Abrams, Christian Serratos and Ana Ortiz.
What character do you play and are you anything like him? In this show I play Kay, a character that is not really close to my personality, but we have very similar characteristics, that’s why some people will love him and hate him at the same time. Kay is a nice young fancy man that is really supportive of everyone, and they called him ‘’Mr. Perfect’’, but he is also very persistent to achieve his goals, but he struggles with his personality. I really believe that is one of the closest characters to me that I have played, more than everyone will expect. It was great fun to be in this project and we have built a real community. I feel very proud and hope everyone is going to watch it soon.
When can we see it? The show will air on HBO Max next month!
