Frogwares, the Ukraine-based studio famous for their work on numerous Sherlock Holmes game adaptions, has recently started a Kickstarter to help fund their upcoming game Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened. The studio has been incredible during the difficult time Ukraine faces, continuing their work and starting a new Sherlock Holmes game that will have a stronger focus on Cosmic horror. Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened is a reimagining of the 2007 game of the same name, where Sherlock Holmes faces one of his most challenging cases, involving Occult activities, shadowy organisation, and the mighty king of the Unknown itself Cthulhu.

Frogwares started its Kickstarter only a couple of days ago, with the goal of £59,069. Yet in just over a day (at the time of this article), they have nearly doubled that with pledges from gamers and fans alike. It's truly wonderful to see fans come together to support their favourite studio and support a new game from the studio, and a remake of one of their best games.

There is still plenty of time to support the studio and the funding of this new game, via their Kickstarter page, which you can find the link below.

What is Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened? - (From the Kickstarter page) -

We are Frogwares, a video game developer founded in the year 2000. You may know us for our open-world Lovecraftian horror game, The Sinking City, or our various adventures of Sherlock Holmes, including our recently released Sherlock Holmes Chapter One.

We are a team of around 90+ people, and we make Unreal Engine-powered games for PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Switch. We have released 20+ titles over the years but the Russian invasion of our homeland Ukraine has thrown up one of the toughest production challenges we’ve ever faced.

As this war has no foreseeable end in sight, we are now working around this new reality of ours. For those of us on the team not serving in the military or with various humanitarian aid organizations, the only way we can fight back is by keeping our team creating. For normal citizens like us, our most potent weapon right now against the Russians is being able to keep Ukrainian society and our economy alive. A functioning country is one that can resist, fight back, and finally, rebuild

The Awakened is a Lovecraft-Conan Doyle crossover detective adventure game that puts you in the shoes of a young Sherlock who is up against a sinister sect that worships a monstrous ancient deity - Cthulhu.

What started as a trivial disappearance case, led to a mind-shattering discovery that we are not alone in this universe and that there are beings far more powerful and ancient than we could ever imagine. Now Sherlock must expose the cult and thwart its ominous plans, or face unspeakable consequences.

The Awakened is set a few years after the events of our latest game, Sherlock Holmes Chapter One. Holmes and Watson are merely roommates renting a flat at 221B Baker street. It’s the events of this adventure that will turn them into the iconic crime-solving duo of best friends, and it’s the only story that Watson will never reveal to the public - the world will be better off being ignorant of what really transpired.

We originally released Sherlock Holmes The Awakened back in 2006 as a standalone story with a mature Sherlock taking on a case of supernatural mystery and intrigue. Despite its age, it is still considered one the best Lovecraftian game stories by fans and critics.

For quite some time we’ve had the idea that our game from 16 years ago can be the perfect foundation for the continuation of our young Sherlock story arc that started with our latest game, Sherlock Holmes Chapter One (2021).

So we are taking this foundation and remaking The Awakened entirely from the ground up. On top of a slew of visual and gameplay changes, we are rewriting the story to be a direct continuation of our young Sherlock history, diving into the key events in his formative years that could have led him to become the flawed and broken genius we all know so well. We are also treating this game as the first real case Sherlock undertakes with Watson and making story changes to be more reflective of how such a harrowing endeavor could bring them closer together. Put simply, this is not a just remaster. It is a full-scale remake where the only assets from the original game we are using are the general case plots. Some of the major changes we are making include:

All new graphics and asset models
New animations
New cutscenes
Additional investigation of gameplay mechanics
Rewriting the story to connect with the case from The Awakened to a younger Sherlock
Amplifying the story behind how Watson and Holmes came to be so close
Case story rewrites
Additional side quests
New English voice-over recordings and translations into multiple languages
UI overall haul
Change to 3rd person perspective camera
Additional quality of life features
