It seems more apparent with each passing year that the Christmas buzz starts earlier and earlier. Taking over another holiday which many love even more, Halloween. October is a busy month and it’s about to get busier with the launch of Orctober, the official month dedicated to one of gaming’s biggest franchises, World of Warcraft.
This month sees a series of events taking place in London to celebrate the release of Warcraft: The Beginning on Bluray and DVD. I was invited to a special launch event at the Loading Bar near Dalston Junction, a place where gamers alike can come along to drink, relax and game the night away. I’ve never been and it’s a shame as I’m a massive gamer. So it was awesome to see a place that served amazing beverages and offered a huge range of board games and video games to play with your friends.
The launch event showcased a collection of props from the Warcraft movie including weapons, armour and the almighty “DoomHammer”. These sadly won’t be at the bar after the launch event but there is an arrangement of other goodies for Warcraft fans to fest upon, including some amazing Warcraft inspired cocktails. To name a few, there was World of Barcraft, The Burning Boozede and Legin. My personal favourite was “Wrath of the Lichee”, a flavoursome concoction with cranberry juice, Port and Cherry liqueur.
But as a humble reviewer I managed to try them all, feel pretty delighted and decided they were all awesome. There’s a cocktail for everyone from those who love fruity twists to mint infused gin with sugar syrup foam on top. The staff behind the bar were amazingly skilful at preparing these delicious drinks and ever so friendly to offer they’re advice on what was amazing for a Warcraft noob like me. Just remember to not drink them all in the space of an hour like I did, I did it as I’m a reviewer.
It was amazing to see the props in person and to get a feel of the effort that went into making the film. But there was plenty more to do with a whole wall of board games at my disposal. The loading bar did a great job at creating a fantastic atmosphere for fans and newbies to the series and if your a World of Warcraft player then I still recommend you go as there's plenty more to enjoy. I loved my outing to The Loading Bar and I urge those who’ve not been and are big on gaming to go there and try out the festive Orctober drinks, games and more events until the end of this month.
(I might have got myself back into WOW as of publishing this review)
But there’s more as Orctober showcases other activities including archery in Greenwich and Tommi’s Burger joint’s limited edition Orc burgers. These burgers are the kingdom’s mightiest treat containing an immense amount of pork and topped with green chilli sauce. Tasty and mouth-watering! But in the meantime, pop down to the Loading Bar (known as the Red Lion at the moment) for some amazing cocktails and awesome gaming to be had.
