Amsterdam-based developer Snail Bite has officially released a free playable demo for its upcoming psychological horror game, GRINDWORM. Launched ahead of October’s Steam Next Fest, the hands-on preview gives PC players a claustrophobic taste of the game's oppressive atmosphere and mechanical survival systems today. The focused 20-minute demo will remain available on Steam through 26 October 2026.

GRINDWORM delivers a terrifying industrial nightmare built around isolation, dread, and the slow erosion of reality. After showing up late for a shift in a subterranean mining facility, players find the tunnels collapsed and the crew missing. Trapped underground, your only hope for survival is a worn-out, heavy-duty mining rig. With workplace safety rules thrown out the window, the ultimate directive is simple: don't stop digging.

Survival depends on maintaining the fragile machinery and managing critical systems under immense pressure. Players must closely monitor oxygen levels, engine temperature, and internal gauges while navigating treacherous underground routes. The game entirely eschews modern hand-holding, omitting floating objective markers and health bars in favor of an immersive, fully in-world interface where players must inspect the physical environment to learn and survive.

To keep the tension high, GRINDWORM combines handcrafted story locations with procedurally generated mine corridors filled with unexpected hazards and uncertainty. Every stretch of tunnel brings new danger, ensuring that no two rescue attempts play out the same way.

The game is developed by Pavel Kharev under the solo studio banner Snail Bite, following the success of his turn-based tactics title Dead Season, which earned a nomination for Best Debut Game at the Dutch Game Awards 2025. With GRINDWORM, Kharev pivots toward a raw, tactile brand of survival horror where mechanical failure means instant doom. Players can download the demo and wishlist the full title on Steam today.
