Sandcastle, the highly anticipated cozy sandbox builder, has officially launched its first-ever playable demo on PC via Steam as part of the Wholesome Games Steam Celebration. Developed by solo creator Fabien Weibel of Bubblebird Studio and published by Future Friends Games, the title invites players to step onto sunny shores and build their dream sandy creations. The announcement comes on the heels of massive online interest, with the project already amassing over 4.5 million views on Instagram and exceeding 185,000 wishlists on Steam just months after its initial reveal.
Designed as a completely stress-free experience, the game offers a relaxing environment with no ticking clocks or high-pressure objectives. Players can gather wet sand, construct towering walls, carve detailed battlements, and design intricate moat systems using intuitive building mechanics. The gameplay is guided purely by the gentle rhythm of the tide and the warm glow of the tropical sun, offering a peaceful space for imaginative construction.
The simulation features realistic water and sand physics across ten unlockable beach layouts, ranging from serene lagoons and islands to sprawling deltas and sand barriers. Players can utilize a variety of tools to shape their structures with precision, decorating their builds with seashells, driftwood, and hidden treasures that wash ashore or lie buried beneath the surface. Each discovery adds a distinct layer of personality to every creation.
Fabien Weibel, known for previous indie releases such as Haven Park and Trackline Express, founded Luxembourg-based Bubblebird Studio with a focus on crafting charming, accessible games with rich environments. Partnering with publisher Future Friends Games—the team behind indie titles like Exo One, SUMMERHOUSE, and Laysara: Summit Kingdom—the studio aims to deliver a soothing creative outlet for players worldwide.
