Independent games publisher Team17 has officially announced a partnership with Barcelona-based developer The Breach Studios to publish Westlanders, a new open-world Wild West survival adventure. The ambitious title is scheduled to launch into Steam Early Access for PC in early 2027, with a full console release planned alongside the game's later 1.0 launch.
Set within a hostile, 19th-century frontier, Westlanders drops players into a sprawling valley where they must survive and thrive by any means necessary. The gameplay mechanics seamlessly blend survival, crafting, construction, and resource management. Players begin their journeys as desperate solo survivors and must work to evolve into the leaders of a thriving regional economic network. A core mechanic of the game centers around a customizable wagon, which serves as a mobile base of operations that players use to explore uncharted territories, hunt for vital materials, and brave brutal weather conditions.
The frontier environment is teeming with life but fraught with peril, forcing players to constantly defend their territories against wandering bandits and wild beasts. As players progress through a deep, multi-layered technology tree, they can craft everything from basic tools to complex machinery. The wilderness can be systematically transformed into a bustling hub of commerce by building customized settlements, cultivating the land through farming and ranching, and extracting valuable minerals via mining. To optimize supply chains, players can also research new technologies and automate their workforce.
"We are thrilled to be partnering with The Breach Studios to publish Westlanders," stated Harley Homewood, General Manager at Team17, noting that the game's unique take on the survival-crafting genre immediately hooked the team. Ferran Punti, CEO of The Breach Studios, expressed immense enthusiasm about welcoming Team17 to the project, praising them as the ideal publishing partner to realize the studio's open-world ambitions. Punti also extended gratitude to marketing partner Radical Theory for their extensive support over the past eight months of development.
