Get ready for a trip to the underworld unlike any other! The highly anticipated musical action RPG, Étrange Overlord, created by Sohei Niikawa (the mind behind the Disgaea series and Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure), has been announced for release next year. We are partnering with Gemdrops and BROCCOLI to publish the game across Nintendo Switch, PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4.
Hell Hath No Fury Like a Sweets-Loving Duchess
Étrange Overlord follows Étrange von Rosenburg, the sweets-loving daughter of a duke who is unjustly executed for assassinating the king. Finding herself in hell, Étrange decides the only logical solution is to take over the domain. The game promises a unique blend of humor, heart, and vibrant musical numbers that drive the story forward.
The visual style is stunning, featuring gorgeous character designs brought to life by legendary illustrator Shinichiro Otsuka. As Étrange, players will gather an "Army of Subordinates"—a colorful cast of allies from all corners of hell—to aid her hostile takeover.
Revolving Lanes and Multiplayer Mayhem
At the core of the gameplay is a frenetic action RPG style coupled with a unique revolving lane mechanic. As players shoot, dodge, and slash their way through the battlefield, items, power-ups, and even characters will circle the map, demanding constant tactical awareness. Players can also indulge Étrange’s constant craving for sweets to trigger temporary buffs and bonuses.
Beyond the main campaign, Étrange Overlord features a separate, action-packed 2-4 player multiplayer mode, allowing friends to join the chaos. This musical odyssey promises to deliver both strategic depth and the signature humor expected from Niikawa.
