BAFTA today announces the nominations for the 20th BAFTA Games Awards, highlighting an outstanding level of creative excellence from a broad range of UK and international development teams. A total of 40 games across 17 categories were nominated today.

The 20th BAFTA Games Awards take place at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Southbank Centre, London on Thursday 11 April 2024 and will be streamed live around the world at 19.00 BST / 14.00 ET / 11.00 PT on BAFTA’s YouTube, Twitch and X channels.

The highlights of today’s nominations are:
10 nominations for Baldur’s Gate 3
Nine nominations for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
Eight nominations for Alan Wake 2
Six nominations each for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of The Kingdom and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor
Five nominations for Dave the Diver and Hi-Fi Rush
Four nominations each for Cocoon, Dredge, Final Fantasy XVI, Super Mario Bros. Wonder and Viewfinder
Nominations in the Game Beyond Entertainment category: Chants of Sennaar, Goodbye Volcano High, Tchia, Terra Nil, Thirsty Suitors and Venba

11 out of the 12 nominees in the performance categories receive their first BAFTA nomination, including Sam Lake for Alan Wake 2; Amelia Tyler, Andrew Wincott, Neil Newbon, Samantha Béart (a 2023 BAFTA Breakthrough) and Tracey Wiles for Baldur’s Gate 3; Ralph Ineson for Final Fantasy XIV; Cameron Monaghan and Debra Wilson for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor; Tony Todd and Yuri Lowenthal for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

Voting is now open for the EE Players’ Choice Award, the only award voted for by the public. The nominees are: Baldur’s Gate 3, Cyberpunk 2077, Fortnite, Lethal Company, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

The Awards, including the nominations, are voted for by BAFTA’s global membership, comprising experienced games industry practitioners from a range of backgrounds in game development and production. BAFTA curates a year-round global programme of events and initiatives that support the games industry. This includes events for the industry at large and a bespoke programme for BAFTA members and BAFTA Connect, a new type of global BAFTA membership for individuals actively building their careers and networks in the film, games and television industries. The BAFTA Games programme includes masterclasses, panels and networking events alongside the annual BAFTA Games sessions which platform the annual nominees through a series of events and showcases. BAFTA’s Young Game Designers initiative gives educators and young people aged 10-18 an insight into the industry and access to expertise to help develop their ideas and build networks.

The Awards are supported by BAFTA’s official partners including 2024’s Official Games Partners Epic Games, PlayStation and Xbox, with EE sponsoring the Players’ Choice Award, the only award voted for by the public.

The BAFTA Games Awards is part of the London Games Festival, which runs from 9 April to 25 April across the UK capital. Other festival highlights include Ensemble, an exhibition celebrating UK games professionals from Black, Asian and underrepresented ethnicities and the Games Finance Market which brings global games investors to London. LGF is delivered by Games London and supported by the Mayor of London.
