Things are looking great for Square Enix and its Marvel’s Avengers game, as the roster will soon get an important superhero addition. The protector of Wakanda will soon be among the characters you can choose when playing one of the most popular action RPGs in 8th and 9th generation environments. Together with Hawkeye, Black Panther is giving superhero fans that have not tried Marvel’s Avengers a reason to get their copy and to start playing the game. Additionally, it is a great way to prepare for the second instalment of the cinematic Black Panther, scheduled for release in 2022.

One of the Most Iconic Superheroes of the 21st Century

Black Panther is a very important Marvel Universe character, but up until recently, he did not share the same popularity as Captain America, Ironman or Hulk. The homonym film starring the late Chadwick Boseman turned Black Panther from a sideliner to a key character for Marvel. The movie created a new trend, stretching from clothing and merchandise to politics and lifestyle choices. People of all ages were inspired by the character, Chadwick Boseman became a person people wanted to look like, and Black Panther became a symbol for a big part of the global community.

Who Is Black Panther?

The king of Wakanda has been around for a long time. T’Challa’s first appearance in comic books came in 1966. Few know this, but he is the richest superhero on earth. In this case, “richest on earth” goes beyond realistic standards. We are not talking about a real person who became rich, or even fictionally rich characters like Tony Stark or Bruce Wayne. We are talking about the king of a nation that owns every ounce of vibranium that one can find on planet Earth. Black Panther’s net worth is estimated at around 100 trillion dollars and this is an amount that Tony Start will never get close to, regardless of how well Stark Industries do in the world of commerce.

After consuming the essence of a rare herb used by all the Panthers in the history of Wakanda, T’Challa developed superhuman abilities, enhancing both his physical as well as his mental skills. Black Panther is one of the most skilled hand to hand combat specialists ever created by Marvel. Together with the warriors of Wakanda, Black Panther can take on any villain. Wakanda’s wealth has turned this fictional African country into a technological superpower. This technology is not only used to protect the kingdom of Wakanda but also every nation in need of assistance. The same technology powers T’Challa’s Black Panther suit. Even though it looks like a simple outfit, it is a state-of-the-art impenetrable suit of armour consisting mostly of vibranium.

Why is Black Panther So Popular?

There are many forms of escapism these days. Gamers can jump aboard ship for a spin on Starburst slots, or head off to ancient Greece with Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. But Black Panther represents something else. Its themes of Afro-futurism is unique and inventive, while also being respectful. Of course, Black Panther owes a debt to the popularity of the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it also serves to enrich Marvel.

Part of what T’Challa can do is shown in the first Black Panther movie and in the last two Avengers movies, but fans are hungry for more action. The sequel, which is currently in production, will give spectators the ability to see Wakanda from a whole new angle. If all goes well and if Black Panther 2 gets finished in time, fans will get to see a lot more from Shuri, Okoye and Mbaku. Chadwick Boseman’s passing in 2020 took Black Panther 2 back to the drawing board. The production team had to rewrite a lot of the story to put together a movie that will pay homage to the man that turned Black Panther from a fictional hero to a worldwide symbol.
