Well it’s that time of year again people! We’ve gone through so much together and throughout the last twelve months we’ve seen a lot of great games come by to make this an amazing year for gaming. Here’s Game-News’ Top 28 Games of 2017 for you to admire, debate and scream over. There are some honourable mentions and we’ve not played certain titles thoroughly enough but will give them a mention.

Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy is honourable mention for Game-News. As much as we love Crash’s remastered adventures, it’s a remaster none the less and we don’t count those. So here we go you lucky people!

28. Yakuza Zero
We return to the legendary series in this epic prequel set within the 80’s. There’s more weird charm, great story telling, Karaoke and plenty of action in this brilliant origin story.

27. Expand
This dynamic puzzler is one of a kind, blending beautiful visuals that ties into the gameplay, various lateral elements and a wonderful soundtrack. This really is something quite stunning to observe and absolutely heartfelt to the very end.

26. South Park: The Fractured but Whole
We love South Park and were delighted at the Stick of Truth back in 2014, so it’s no surprise that South Park: The fractured by Whole made the list this year. It’s a brilliant satire on the superhero genre with classic elements from the TV show that pokes fun at Religion, Politics and everything in-between.

25. Nidhogg 2
The most epic fencing game has return in glorious fashion. While is doesn’t reinvent the wheel as much remains the same from the original game, there’s still a thrilling and entertaining experience to be had here.

24. Fire Emblem Warriors
While it was a shame this didn't live up to its predecessor in Hyrule Warriors, it was still a good game, with hours of fun to be had by most modern Fire Emblem fans.

23. RIME
A heartfelt journey of loss, love and sacrifice. This beautiful adventure game never lets you go and through its immense journey, you'll be captivated through its elegant lateral elements and exploration.

22. Wolfenstein: The New Colossus
The sequel to the excellent New order and Old Blood continues the tradition of intense, wacky action, surreal historical twists and emotional depth. Great fun for those needing their fix of insane shooting.

21. Uncharted lost legacy
More uncharted goodness but with a new dynamic duo taking charge. More refined that Uncharted 4 with improved pacing and bigger action set pieces to keep you entertained.

20. Super Robot Wars V
Mainline Super Robot Wars games, in English at last (much better translation than Moon Dwellers also) and a notable improvement over the lacklustre Z3. If only it wasn't such an easy game...

19. Sniper Elite 4
The best of the series so far. New tweaks and dynamics make this a highly refined shooter with grit, impact and highly captivating gameplay. The best WW2 shooter this year (no Call of Duty. Not you).

18. Domina
This highly dynamic Gladiator sim features a bizarre and intriguing blend of gameplay styles including gladiator management and arena combat. Vastly engaging and highly rewarding, there's plenty of reasons to dive in and entertain.

17. The Evil Within 2
Another great sequel from Bethesda this year. Tango gameworks have out done themselves with a better structure, bigger sense of freedom and highly immersive sense of horror. Return to STEM as this nightmare is highly worth checking out.

16. The Butcher
More ultra-violence with this highly stressful and mesmerizing 2D shooter. There's guns, gore and a lovingly crafted world that pays homage to Quake. Just think Contra but with psychopathic alien soldiers wiping out humanity.

15. The Infectious Madness of Doctor Dekker
Another trip down memory lane with this captivating and complex FMV. Doctor Dekker grips your attention and never let's go due it's compelling design and excellent performances from the actors.

14. Dishonored: Death of the Outsider
The last of the Dishonored series and a fine send off as well. As always there's depth, charisma and a vastly engaging sense of choice and freedom. Dark, captivating and elegantly beautiful. I wish there to be more games like this.

13. Paradigm
Trip down memory lane as this lovable title brings us the charm and witt of the classic 90's point and click adventures. Funny, heartbreaking and highly creative, don't let this homage to the 90's most popular genre pass you by.

12. Ruiner
Gritty and ultraviolet shooter; Ruiner, showcases simplicity and raw nerve can bewilder and amaze. Awesome soundtrack, intense intense and satisfying combat with style to match.

11. Gundam Versus
Another game that finally made the journey west, this 3d fighting franchise offers a lot of content out of the gate, and is great fun for anyone, Gundam fan or not.

10. Cuphead
The art style alone is worth all the praise, but this colourful, fast paced boss battler is intensely challenging and highly rewarding. Classic couch co-op is reborn and this shows you that creativity in gaming is thriving.

9. Nioh
A challenger arises for the throne of Dark Souls; Nioh is a welcome game in the ilk of From Software's much-loved franchise, with many of its own quirks to make it stand out. A must-have for anyone who enjoys Dark Souls... or just getting your ass kicked.

8. The Sexy Brutale
The most cleaver and dynamic game this year. Think Groundhog day meets Ms Marple with plenty of quirk and charm. Vastly entertaining and gripping until the finale. Definitely worth checking out.

7. Sonic Mania
It’s the return of Sonic is the best possible way. New levels, new mechanics and plenty more classic Sonic style adventures are awaiting old fans and new alike.

6. Resident Evil 7
It's been a long time coming. Back its roots and more terrifying than Chris Red field punching boulders. Great horror, excellent survival gameplay and that classic RE charm. Plus the garage boss fight is one of the best this year!

5. Horizon Zero Dawn
The 2nd best action adventure this year. This has everything, a highly detailed and beautiful world with intense survival gameplay and immersive exploration. One of the best reasons to pick up a PS4 right now!

4. Zelda Breath of the Wild
While some areas left me wanting, Nintendo did nothing short of a stellar job with this long-awaited entry to the Zelda franchise.

3. Nier: Automata
Japan had several slam dunks this year, and Nier was one of its best. Provides long hours of entertainment and a stunning story with multiple endings.

2. Prey
This year's smartest shooter, with mind bending surrealism, intense FPS action and classic survival mechanics inspired by greats such as System shock 2 and Bioshock. We need more games like this and hopefully Bethesda will deliver next year.

1. Persona 5
Atlus has done it again. Persona 5 was a sublime experience from start to finish, and exemplified the 'renaissance' that Japan had this year with many gamews early this year.
