It's that time of year again people, where we decide on the year's best in gaming. It was tough as this year showcased a immense amount of fine gaming from all corners of the map. From mighty AAA titles to some truly amazing Indie hits, we've listed our Top 28 for you lucky people.

Sadly not all games you might expect to see here made our list, either because we've not played them or they just missed the mark for us. So some honourable mentions go out to Titanfall, Attack on Titan: wings of Freedom, Cluster Truck, Sherlock Holmes: The Devil's Daughter and Flat Kingdom. You guys were close to making the list but remain awesome. So sit back and check out our list of this year's greastest Top 28 in gaming!

28. Far Cry Primal
It’s been some time since Ubisoft have impressed us as many recent titles have been underwhelming. It’s great to see they’re return to glory with Farcry Primal. An interesting turn with brutal survival elements, engaging combat and redefined mechanics to deliver more of an immersive game with a brand new theme and setting in gaming.

27. World of Final Fantasy
Even if the cutesy art style isn’t your thing, turn-based RPG fans will get a lot out of this game. Besides a nostalgia factor however, it’s a tough sell over the much bigger (and better) brother, Final Fantasy XV.

26. Hearts of Iron IV
Commanding a nation through the Second World War is as tight (and difficult) as ever in the newest entry to the long running WW2 simulator. Sadly the game, as many Paradox games do, lacks in features to preserve its longevity at this time.

25. Battleborn
Gearbox’s own hero shooter may have been overwhelmed by another game on the list, yet this is still a classy and extremely entertaining shooter for everyone to enjoy. Battleborn is extremely fun, colourful and immensely action packed, just the treat for any Borderlands fans.

24. Lego Star Wars Force Awakens
Lego games have been hit and miss in recent years, but The Force Awakens is definitely the finest example since Lego Indiana Jones. Colourful, fun and extremely enjoyable for all, Lego Star Wars showcases an excellently crafted game with an immersive fun factor while presenting the best aspects of the film.

23. Super Robot Wars OG: The Moon Dwellers
English Subs, Import Only. The gameplay of Super Robot Wars is still something I love after all these years, and to finally get official English releases once more is great news. Sadly, the translation quality here is lacking, dragging this down.

22. Deus Ex Mankind Divided
Deus Ex returns to glory with an impressive instalment that improves and expands upon the previous title. Cleaver, immersive and enjoyable with a great range of gameplay elements that encourage exploration, stealth and action in thought provoking ways but deliver the aspect of choice in such as a refined manner.

21. Civilization VI
Civilization VI continues the dominance of the strategy genre that its previous iteration offered. If only the AI weren’t so hard to deal with and the game had a better difficulty curve, it wouldn’t be sitting so low.

20. Gears of War 4
We venture back to the planet Serra to join a new squad on a harrowing journey. JD and the team search for missing villagers and come across a new and powerful enemy known as the Swarm. Gritty, intense and stunning to observe makes the return of Gears on the Xbox One’s must have titles this year.

19. Planet Coaster
Forget the sham that is Rollercoaster Tycoon World, this is the real return of the theme park game. Great visuals, fun gameplay, this would be higher up if only it had some more difficulty early on.

18. Oxenfree
This charming and quirky indie mystery is a delightful and creepy as hell gem that mixes engaging story telling with simple yet thought provoking gameplay. Imagine The Goonies meets Stranger Things with an amazing soundtrack and colourful art style to present this wonderful little game.

17. Dishonoured 2
The sequel to the smash hit sees the return of Corvo the master assassin and his daughter Empress Emily attempt to clear their names against a new antagonising force. Dishonoured 2 delivers a beautiful world to explore, vastly diverse and engaging gameplay mechanics with an immersive sense of challenge and choice to grasp.

16. Guilty Gear Xrd Revelator
As a fighting game that offered up great gameplay that was accessible for newcomers, and an actual arcade mode (you see Capcom). This was a great entry in the popular franchise.

15. Dead Rising 4
Frank West returns for another gore fest of zombie slaying and epic destruction where the series all started. Dead rising 4 brings back making brutal combo weapons, mowing down hordes of undead and taking endless selfies with the horrors of the zombie apocalypse for good measure. This truly gives Black Friday a new meaning.

14. Gundam Breaker 3
English Subs, Import Only. Making your own Gundam and taking it to battle is a great experience, although this game might get a little monotonous for some.

13. Battlefield 1
A fresh look for first person shooters in general, combined with great multiplayer gameplay and level design. DICE knock it out of the park again.

12. Hitman
Agent 47 made a stunning return to form in this episodic release. Anyone who is a fan of stealth gameplay should try this.

11. Dark Souls 3
Hard as nails, but as rewarding as any game out there with great gameplay and world design. This is a great ending to a landmark series.

10. Overwatch
A super-addictive online FPS game that is a blast to play, and no other multiplayer has been this fun. Balance issues continue to be a problem, but Blizzard has committed to working these out, as well as adding more free content.

9. Unravel
This heart-warming indie title sees a cute, woolly knitted critter embark on an emotional adventure of discovery. Explore beautifully crafted landscapes as Yarny ventures into a series of memories, overcoming head scratching puzzles, traversal challenges and epic set pieces while maintaining his body of wool. Simply Beautiful.

8. SD Gundam G Generation Genesis
English Subs, Import Only. A late entry, but this game contains sublime gameplay, and a staggering amount of content for you to play around with. Any Gundam or mecha enthusiast should consider this, although it does only contain the original timeline, Universal Century.

7. Uncharted 4
Naughty Dog had one more epic adventure for us with Nathan Drake embarking on a journey for a legendary pirate island with his long lost brother. More story focused with a slower pace compared to previous game, but the action is intense, the narrative takes on a deeper emotional level and the game looks stunning. Definitely a fine end for the series.

6. Ratchet & Clank
An absolute blast from this platforming duo, in what is a welcome return. The gameplay is as solid as ever, and a high recommendation to anyone who owns a PS4.

5. Final Fantasy XV
It was a long wait for this one, but worth it in the end. Brimming with content and boasting some of the best real-time action of the series, it’s a truly brilliant RPG for the generation.

4. Inside
The spiritual sequel to Limbo is a surrealistic and bleak tale of another young boy venturing into a dark and devastating world. Inside is brilliantly paced, immersive and impressively stunning for visuals and sound.

3. Superhot
This indie smash hit is soon to become a cult classic and indeed one of the decades most innovated FPSs on the market. This stylish game of a computer hacker taking part in a wildly bizarre game that infuses tactical elements, time control and thought provoking FPS gameplay makes this immensely rewarding and enjoyable FPS.

2. Forza Horizon 3
Easily one of the best driving games I’ve played in a long time, with almost no flaws to speak of. An outstanding effort from Turn 10, this should be a must play on any driving enthusiast’s list.

1. DOOM
The return of gaming’s most renowned FPS series comes in the form of the ultimate bloodbath of awesomeness. Fast paced, intense action fills the screen with amazing, eye melting visuals and the most badass soundtrack to come around in a long time. Thank you Marty Stratton, Mick Gordon, Hugo Martin and the ID team for making this return of Doom truly amazing!
