Independent developer Eclair Games has revealed its new narrative adventure game, RatScum, at The MIX Fall Showcase. This single-player title promises a unique blend of puzzle-solving, stealth, and heartfelt storytelling, all centered on themes of identity and belonging.
In RatScum, players take on the role of a lost rat on a quest to find its way home. The journey unfolds in a "crumbling yet whimsical world" filled with forgotten spaces, from labyrinthine air vents to the hidden nooks behind the walls of a dilapidated building. The game's art style blends the grim with the beautiful, turning filth and decay into a surprisingly serene backdrop.
The core gameplay revolves around navigation and problem-solving. Players will need to climb through tight spaces, solve environmental puzzles, and carefully avoid a variety of dangers. A key mechanic involves spying on the building's tenants, gathering clues, and piecing together their stories. Along the way, you’ll encounter other rats, each with their own unique tales and personalities, offering opportunities for new friendships and discoveries.
RatScum is more than just a platformer; it's a narrative-driven experience. The game is designed to be a meditative adventure where players can uncover the whispered secrets of the world and the deep emotional core of the main character’s journey. The developers aim to create a space that, despite its desolate appearance, holds a sense of beauty and "something like peace."
RatScum is now available to wishlist on Steam. For more information, interested players can visit the game's official Steam page. Eclair Games has not yet announced a release date.
