STUDIOCANAL is delighted to announce that JOURNEYMAN, Paddy Considine’s highly acclaimed second feature, will be released on Blu-Ray, DVD, Digital download and VOD on July 30th along with exclusive new extras.
Following on from his 2011 directorial debut, TYRANNOSAUR, Considine not only wrote and directed JOURNEYMAN, but this time assumes the Lead role alongside Jodie Whittaker (‘Broadchurch’, Attack the Block,‘Doctor Who’ (2018)), Anthony Welsh (My Brother the Devil), Tony Pitts (War Horse) and Paul Popplewell (’71). Drawing wide praise from audiences and critics alike on its theatrical release earlier this year, JOURNEYMAN is the powerful, emotional and, at times, heart-wrenching story of a middleweight boxing champion’s road to recovery after an injury in the ring.

After winning a punishing title defence on points, Matty Burton (Paddy Considine) collapses at home. The journey towards regaining his speech, movement and memory will be the toughest fight he’ll ever face; and the prize could not be greater, for his relationship with his wife Emma (Jodie Whittaker) and baby daughter Mia are on the line… JOURNEYMAN is a powerful and beautiful story about loss and, ultimately, triumph. It's about our identity, and how in life we sometimes have to dig deep into our soul to discover who we really are.

Many of the supporting cast make their acting debuts and take on roles that closely mirror their actual professions with appearances from boxers, boxing commentators, nurses and occupational therapists. JOURNEYMAN was developed and shot in close collaboration with the boxing community and medical profession. The film is produced by Diarmid Scrimshaw (who also worked with Considine on Dog Altogether and Tyrannosaur) and is financed by Film4, the BFI, Screen Yorkshire, and The Wellcome Trust.

Paddy Considine is an actor, writer and director. His critically acclaimed directorial debut, Tyrannosaur, won numerous awards including the Outstanding Debut Award at the BAFTA's 2012, the Douglas Hickox Award for Best Debut Director and Best Actress for Olivia Colman at the BIFA’s 2011, and the Best Director and Special Jury Prize (for Olivia Colman and Peter Mullan) at the Sundance Film Festival 2011. As an actor, Paddy’s varied roles have included In America directed by Jim Sheridan, Shane Meadows' comedy drama A Room for Romeo Brass and his thriller Dead Man's Shoes (which Paddy co-wrote with Meadows), Michael Winterbottom's cult classic 24 Hour Party People, Pawel Pawlikowski's My Summer of Love, hit comedy Hot Fuzz directed by Edgar Wright, Paul Greengrass’ action thriller The Bourne Ultimatum, Macbeth and BAFTA award-winning culture clash comedy Pride. Television credits include ‘Red Riding’, 'Peaky Blinders' and the title role in 'The Suspicions of Mr. Whicher'.

Considine’s most recent acting roles have included Armando Iannucci’s Death of Stalin and his first play ‘The Ferryman’ - which received rave reviews when it opened earlier this year and is directed by Sam Mendes and written by Jez Butterworth. Paddy is currently filming the BBC series ‘Informer’ which is due to air in late 2018.
